Your oral health is our priority, and your smooth recovery after a dental procedure is equally important. By following these instructions, you'll ensure faster healing and avoid any complications.
Immediately After the Procedure
- Gauze: Keep the gauze placed by your dentist over the surgical area for at least 30 minutes, applying gentle pressure to control bleeding.
- Rest: Avoid strenuous activity and rest for the next 24 hours.
- Ice: Apply an ice pack to the outside of your face, over the surgical area, for 15 minutes every hour, for the first 6-8 hours. This will help reduce swelling.
- Medication: Take the medications prescribed by your dentist (antibiotics, painkillers, anti-inflammatories) as directed.
Diet
- Liquids and soft foods: Consume liquids and soft foods (soups, mashed potatoes) for the first 24-48 hours.
- Avoid: Avoid hot drinks and food, spicy or acidic foods, alcohol, caffeine, and carbonated drinks for the first few days.
- Do not use a straw: Suction can disrupt healing.
Oral Hygiene
- Brushing: Continue to brush your teeth normally, avoiding the surgical area for the first 24 hours.
- Mouthwash: Use an antiseptic mouthwash (alcohol-free) to gently rinse your mouth 2-3 times a day.
Additional Instructions
- Bleeding: Minor bleeding is normal. If bleeding is heavy or continues for more than 24 hours, contact your dentist.
- Pain and swelling: These are expected after a procedure. If the pain is severe or not relieved by painkillers, inform your dentist.
- Stitches: If stitches were placed, they will be removed at a follow-up appointment after 7-10 days.
